RETROFITTING FOAM INSULATION IN EXISTING BUILDINGS

The U.S. Dept. of Energy says about 80 percent of pre-1980 U.S. homes and a good percentage of current homes are under insulated.

Are you remodeling or building an addition to your home or business?  Did you know that you can choose to have the energy and cost efficiency of spray foam insulation retrofit into your building?

Spray Foam Insulation is a great Green Building choice for retrofit insulation application in all types of buildings.

Spray Foam Insulation:

  • Acts as its own air barrier
  • Fills all holes & crevices preventing air infiltration
  • Retains shape & thickness indefinitely
  • Allows zero water infiltration making it impervious to mold
  • Offers greater energy savings because of permanent barrier properties
  • Its simple application means faster construction time
  • Has a higher R value per inch than any other type of insulation
  • Is non carcinogenic
  • Does not deteriorate over time
  • Does not pollute the environment

Retrofitting an existing home with foam insulation involves spraying product directly onto the roof deck below the shingles. In most cases it is best to completely encapsulate or cover the structural members (rafters) in the attic. Full encapsulation stops heat and cold transfer through the rafters themselves.

The existing insulation material in your home is left behind or can be vacuumed out if desired. If the existing insulation is left, a partially vented attic system is required meaning we leave part of the attic vents operational and block the others.

Retrofitting an existing home or business building reduces energy consumption by taking heat and cold stress away from the ducts and HVAC unit in the attic therefore preventing undesired heat or cold from ever getting past the roof deck underside. Savings can range from 20-50% with retrofit spray foam installation. Of course, other variables will affect your building's energy efficiency including HVAC equipment, hot water heaters, windows, doors, air infiltration around doors/window, leaking ductwork or return air duct, etc.   In order for a home to be truly energy efficient many parts working together make the efficient "package".

When an addition is called for Therma-Lok can apply spray foam insulation to the walls and attic space making the addition an energy efficient part of your Green Building project.

As with other types of insulation SPF should only be applied by qualified applicators. Therma-Lok owners have years of experience in the construction industry and in insulation installation. We are thoroughly trained in the proper method of installing foam insulation. Our reputation is on the line with each job we do and we value our good reputation. We will be glad to provide references on request. Our focus is on making sure your space is the most efficient and cost saving environment possible.
