ABOUT THERMA-LOK SPRAY FOAM INSULATION

Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is an insulating form of plastic.  It is sprayed in liquid form.  The liquid expands to many times original size and clings to every surface to which it is applied.  It is this liquid then expanded solid property that allows SPF to fill all cavities and defects providing a complete insulation barrier that is far superior to any other type of insulation.  Spray polyurethane foam should be applied by properly trained applicators in order to get the best results.

Because of its multiple forms, multiple formulations and many positive properties SPF is used in a wide variety of applications including high performance roofing systems, flotation, sealing basements and crawl spaces, packaging, furniture, sound insulation in walls, adhesive, insulation in walls and attics, roofing adhesive, construction adhesive, aerospace applications, insulation for spas and hot tubs, refrigeration, taxidermy, and more.

SPF is environmentally friendly
  • It contains no formaldehyde or ozone depleting chemicals.
  • SPF requires less energy to produce than other forms of insulation.  Less energy is needed to transport and install it.   Less energy usage means a reduction in the use of fossil fuels and less global warming gasses.
  • SPF does not contaminate soil or streams on the building site.
  • Because of its multiple uses and longevity on site SPF can take the place of several other products, including other types insulation, air barriers, sealants, and vapor barriers. This means waste material, packaging, and failed insulation going into trash containers and land fills.
  • SPF contributes LEED credits for sustainable, Green Building construction, is an Energy Star qualified product, and qualifies for the federal Tax Incentive Assistance Program.
SPF reduces energy usage
  • Less energy is required to heat and cool buildings insulated with spray foam insulation. This means lower CO2 emissions.
  • Spray foam insulation has a high R-value per inch (open-cell 3.5 per inch and closed-cell 6.0 per inch).
  • Helps control moisture and condensation inside the building space.
  • SPF reduces convective currents and air infiltration in walls and attics.
  • Spray foam insulation is equally effective in high and low temperatures
  • Because of the tight building envelope SPF creates ventilation systems work more effectively.

Health benefits

  • Reduces air pollutants, allergens, and dust infiltration
  • Prevents mold growth by preventing moisture infiltration
  • Is non carcinogenic
  • Prevents insects & rodents from entering building
  • SPF acts as a noise barrier.
  • Allows easily maintainable comfortable temperature within the entire building
  • Reduces drafts

Additional SPF benefits

  • Closed cell SPF adds structural strength by gluing your building together.  This means the building will be more resistant to high winds.
  • HVAC equipment can be down-sized, reducing construction costs
  • Closed-cell SPF provides a barrier from water intrusion.
  • SPF will not sag or settle over time like other forms of insulation
